Paul Gascoigne 'back home and doing well' after hospital visit, representative says
Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne is back home and doing well after being hospitalized over the weekend, his representative said Monday. Paul voluntarily went into A&E on Friday after struggling with a throat condition he has had for a while, Carly Saward at The MNT talent agency told The Associated Press in an email. He is already back home and doing well. British newspaper The Sun reported that the 58-year-old Gascoigne had been found semi-conscious at home by a friend on Friday in Poole in south England and initially been admitted to an intensive care unit. Gascoigne helped lead England to the semifinals at the 1990 World Cup and 1996 European Championship and was widely considered one of the most naturally talented players of his generation, but he has battled alcohol addiction for decades and has also had other health problems in recent years.

Paul Gascoigne ‘doing well' at home after hospital treatment
Paul Gascoigne is now 'doing well' at home after receiving hospital treatment for a throat condition, his management company told Telegraph Sport. Long-term associates of the former England midfielder moved to ease concern around his welfare after it was reported he was found collapsed at home. Gascoigne 'voluntarily went into A&E on Friday after struggling with a throat condition', his Dorset-based management company said. He was not taken in by ambulance and his treatment related to a condition 'he has had for a while'. 'He is already back home and doing well,' figures added. It had previously been reported he was receiving treatment at an acute medical unit at Poole Hospital. Steve Foster, a friend of Gascoigne's, had told The Sun newspaper: 'He would like to thank everyone for the support he's received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best.' Gascoigne is regarded as one of England's greatest playmakers after representing his country with distinction between 1988 and 1998. He starred in England teams that went close to winning the World Cup in 1990 and the 1996 European Championship – famously scoring a wonder goal against Scotland at Euro '96 – but ultimately won only 57 caps and scored 10 goals for his country following the serious knee injury he recklessly sustained during the 1991 FA Cup final. In recent interviews, Gascoigne has described himself as 'a sad drunk' while vowing to 'keep on fighting' and attend Alcoholics Anonymous. He told the High Performance Podcast last year how he had been staying in his agent's spare bedroom in Dorset. Gascoigne came through the ranks at Newcastle United in the 1980s before moving to Tottenham Hotspur, where he would win an FA Cup winner's medal in 1991. However, after the long lay-off following that knee injury in that final, his personal life became increasingly tumultuous. He spent four years in Italy with Lazio before joining Rangers, but alcohol issues took hold during the latter stages of his career at Middlesbrough, Everton and Burnley. He was left out of England's 1998 World Cup squad, which proved a crushing blow for both his professional and personal life.
